Moshe Feldenkrais himself had strong ties with Japan. He studied Judo under the founder of modern Judo, Jigoro Kano and became one of the first Westerners to earn a black belt. That the physical skills of Japanese martial arts influenced the Feldenkrais Method is clear but what might be more interesting to consider in the future is how the Feldenkrais Method influences us here in Japan. In Japan, there are currently 100 Feldenkrais Method practitioners. Most of them are graduates of the training programs offered here in 2000 and 2004. Though the practitioners are spread out across the country, the majority are based in the metropolitan Tokyo area. |
